FAO Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation 

GFP representatives attended and presented at the FAO Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation

Four representatives from the Global Farm Platform initiative attended the first ever Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation from September 25 to 27, 2023, held at the FAO headquarters in Rome.

Dr Alexandre Berndt from Embrapa Southeast Livestock (Brazil) presented the keynote speech titled ‘Synergies and trade-offs between livestock production and the environment‘ and highlighted the relevance of the research networks such as the GFP to address key aspects of livestock systems sustainability.

Professor Iain Wright, the Deputy Director of General at ILRI (Kenya), was part of the ILRI delegation. Shirley Tarawali, Assistant Director General at ILRI, delivered the keynote speech titled ‘Integrated and context-specific approaches for sustainable livestock production‘. 

Professor Michael Lee from Harper Adams University (UK) and Dr Jordana Rivero from Rothamsted Research (UK), attended the conference as GFP representatives. Professor Lee actively participated in the Q&A sessions throughout the event, while Dr. Rivero advocated for the GFP initiative
